Kyokushin Tournament in Melbourne – 1970

September 12, 2008 by Rod

Kyokushinkai Hapennings in Melbourne

Inter Club Competition Monday 23rd November 1970

Five local clubs met at Moreland to participate in the inter-club competition on the night of Monday the 23rd November.
The night was organised for the purpose of bringing the members of the various clubs together for the purpose of competition and also to meet each other with a spirit of comradship which goes hand in hand with exponents of martial arts.
The five clubs represented were Brunswick, Geelong, Kew, North Melbourne and the host club Moreland, each team was allotted a number which it would retain for the evening, participating in the bouts as drawn hereunder:-

Team 1 versus Team 2
Team 3 versus Team 4
Team 1 versus Team 5
Team 2 versus Team 3
Team 4 versus Team 5
Team 1 versus Team 3
Team 2 versus Team 4
Team 3 versus Team 5
Team 1 versus Team 4
Team 2 versus Team 5
This method of draw comitted each team to compete in four bouts, but also ensured that each team vied with each other team entered, thus precluding the necessity of bye rounds usually associated with tournaments where an odd number of teams are entered.
The draw for the team numbers resulted as follows:-

Team Number 1 Geelong
Team Number 2 North Melbourne
Team Number 3 Kew
Team Number 4 Brunswick
Team Number 5 Moreland
